Dake OEM Furniture began
in 1987 as Grand Haven Furniture Products. The original
management team came from an OEM automotive manufacturing
background at Grand Haven Stamped Products (now GHSP),
another JSJ Corporation business.
The business plan for the new company was to apply
the same rigorous quality and manufacturing disciplines
required of a Tier 1 automotive supplier to the OEM
contract furniture business. The potential customer
base was accessible because the leading contract office
furniture manufacturers were located close by in western
Michigan. The timing was ideal for an innovative supplier
that could provide high quality components, competitively
priced, with a track record for on time deliveries.
Grand Haven Furniture Products again tapped the automotive
engineering expertise of GHSP to differentiate their
product offering from other OEM furniture suppliers.
The result was a unique method of molding soft urethane
edges on tables, desks, and other work surfaces. Market
acceptance was immediate and coincided with ergonomics
becoming a critical factor in office furniture design.
A name change to Counter Point Furniture Products
followed in 1990. Counter Point then grew the business
with sales to numerous office and medical furniture
customers.
In 2001 JSJ combined Counter Point and Superior Chair
and created a small, innovative contract furniture
manufacturing company called izzy design, now izzy+.
The new company was a response to changes in the office
environment that stressed collaboration and mobility.
izzy design offered products that were cool and affordable
to the emerging market.
In 2010 an announcement was made that the original
OEM furniture products manufacturing company would
split from izzy+ and became part of the Dake Corporation,
another JSJ business, on January 1, 2011. The business
name was changed to Dake OEM Furniture to clearly differentiate
the markets served by the Spring Lake, Michigan manufacturing
facility.
Dake Corporation, a JSJ business, is a US company
that has been manufacturing continuously in Grand Haven,
Michigan since 1887. The merger with Dake gives Dake
OEM Furniture access to a complete metal fabrication
facility including an extensive CNC machine shop, a
complete welding facility, global casting sourcing,
and increased technical manufacturing and assembly
support. |
